Roofing in Mount Pleasant, TX

Mount Pleasant is the Titus County seat, east of our shop in Sulphur Springs. US 271 runs through town, and the pine woods get thicker as you leave the square. Close in, a lot of the houses are brick or older wood-frame homes with a porch. Farther out, newer streets sit next to pasture, and weekend houses show up toward Lake Bob Sandlin and Lake Monticello. A roof in town often sits under oaks. A roof by the water sits in the open, where wind has a clear run at the eaves.

Spring storms are the weather people here plan around. Hail and hard wind cross this part of Northeast Texas, and one squall can bruise a shingle, lift a ridge, or push rain under flashing that was already loose. Summers stay hot and humid. That heat bakes asphalt, and a slow leak stays damp long after the sky clears. Pine needles and leaves pack into valleys and behind chimneys, so a roof that looked fine in winter can be holding water by early summer. After a storm, the useful check is the deck and the flashings, not only the granules in the gutter.

For homes in Mount Pleasant we install new roofs, tear-offs, overlays, and metal roofs. On an older house near town, a tear-off is often the straight answer. Another layer of shingles can hide a soft deck, and we would rather open it up than cover it. An overlay can be right when the wood is sound and there is only one layer down already. We will say so if that is the case, and we will say so if it is not. Metal is a practical choice on houses that take full sun, and on places by the lakes where the wind is stronger. The recommendation follows the house.
